Im brand new to group Have a Family heirloom just passed on to 13 year son is Luger marked 1939 42 on toggle three digit serial number in the 300's and all parts that have marks match last two digits nazi eagel with wings on right side of barrel (two) Anyway to trace this to who it was originally issued? My son the history buff wants to know where its been. Its old enought to have been anywhere and everywhere very good shape with holster and spare clip Not for sale its a heirloom Thanks

Unfortunately, there is not a way to trace the history of your Luger. We do know, through research, that about 85,000 of this type of Luger was produced in 1939.

There should be a letter stamped in the front of the frame, below the barrel and just below the 300 number. If you would provide this letter, we can estimate the approximate time the pistol was completed.

Thank You mark looks like a stylized X but script style almost like back to back C"s or even E"s Right side of frame has 655 stamped lightly twice with a eagle over it than a winged eagle and just where barrel begins and 3/4inch is winged eagle on barrel this eagel smaller than one on frame cut for shoulder stock nice finish it spoke for the first time in half century the other day and ran fine for two clips worth has flat lanyard ring on rear of frame holster brown with two black square stamps in upper flap Thanks wa hoping too trace it to who or where it was issued and where it was when but I knew that was a real long shot but the germans loved records so there was some hope

Kevin, the script "X" is a real possibility. If it really is a "X", then the Luger was completed about October 1939, give or take a month. The estimate is based on a constant production, that's the reason for the time tolerance!!
