Default Portuguese Colonies Mag question

According to Costanzo the circle with the KK 4 in it indicates a Portuguese colonies mag. Does anyone have any insight on the lazy 8 (depending on how you would look at it) above it?

A number has been etched on the side of the body and the base is not numbered but very well worn.

Thanks in advance.
