Portuguese Colonies Mag question
2 Attachment(s)
According to Costanzo the circle with the KK 4 in it indicates a Portuguese colonies mag. Does anyone have any insight on the lazy 8 (depending on how you would look at it) above it?
A number has been etched on the side of the body and the base is not numbered but very well worn. Thanks in advance. Gary |
Educated guess would be the magazine capacity (8 rounds).

Now that is interesting inductive reasoning. I only have one other Portuguese mag (well the bottom is Portuguese, who knows what the body is) but it is unmarked. Have you seen other examples like this? Is it unique to Portugal?
Thanks Gary |
Gary
Here is a thread about my Portuguese luger magazine. http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthre...ght=portuguese Mine has a aluminum bottom. So now I have seen 3 of these mags with a wooden base. My tube has the same etched style of number on it as yours. The bottom on my mag must be a replacement. Probably the wooden one broke and was replaced. All these mags must have been together at one time,as that numeral etching is so similar. Take care Bob |
Hay! Thanks much for the link and the comment. I now know more than before--I think.
Yours has that circle 9 or 6 on it which leaves me still wondering about the 8 (no circle) on mine. Is that a KK 31 on yours? From someplace I have written into my WOL book that they are 1-20. If I am seeing that right I need to update my book. Tom mentions these are post war. About what years are we looking at? I'm trying to figure if it would be more appropriate mounted with my GNR or with My M2. Thanks again Gary |
I have what I think is a Portuguese mag with wooden bottom.
I see the KK with 11 below it, the etched number and the 9 or 6 circled. Mine also has an M on the spine near the base. It does have a mark on the wooden base. Maybe a circle? Or zero? I wouldn't mind trading it for a WW1 mag for my DWM. https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...03098376_n.jpg https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...20224588_n.jpg |
