Police Re-Work Grip Replacement?

I looked at a 1916 1920 double dated police rework. Everthing matched but the left grip. It was mauser marked. Would that have been normal? Was it replaced from the cut for the safety?

By the way, the gun was in very nice condition, with a holster and two magazines, one that matched the gun and the other that matched the holster.
