Steve, you were right!! I was being careful but still managed to have a small piece of my left grip come off right below the safety lever. The small chip does stay in place when I put the grip back on the gun and you can't tell it is broken.

I will buy some cyanoacrolate instant glue and will put it back on.

I am still scratching my head on exactly how this happened. I lifted the grip up just enough to clear the bottom of the frame and the chip fell off as soon as I began to lift it. No pressure was applied.
