Default Inherited Luger

[/ATTACH]We have inherited a military Luger acquired in WWII. On the barrel or right behind it is stamped in the metal : 1918. Is this the model or manufacturing date? Would this indicate that it was WWI vintage, possibly used in both wars?

I'm new to the forum and am a certified Glock armorer trying to learn about the Luger.

Thanks for any comments.
