Inherited Luger
3 Attachment(s)
[/ATTACH]We have inherited a military Luger acquired in WWII. On the barrel or right behind it is stamped in the metal : 1918. Is this the model or manufacturing date? Would this indicate that it was WWI vintage, possibly used in both wars?
I'm new to the forum and am a certified Glock armorer trying to learn about the Luger. Thanks for any comments. |
Welcome hays, 1918 is the mfg. date.
Yes it could have and likely did serve in both wars. Do read the stickys for more info and frequently asked questions, they will help you come up to speed quicker and ask better questions. Especially in the New Collector sub forum. Do read them and take the pictures outlined as important, you can add them to your post. Just click edit, then go advanced, and go down to the manage attachments area and you can upload pictures to the server here and include them in your post. |
I concur with Don V's comments about posting good photos. Personally, I think that is the first thing you should do since the members of the forum can tell you a lot about the gun from them and point you in the right direction for more detailed research.

Thank you. I have tried to post a couple pictures that I have taken. I don't see them posted. Okay be doing something wrong.

It would shoot the same rounds that a Glock does - 9mm Luger

While you are at it you can also edit the title to Luger, not Lugar.:) |
Also check out our FAQs. There is quite a bit of information in them...

A Photo, Use a neutral background, not black or white. I take mine outside on a table in the shade! You will wind up with a better image and able to see more details~

Good try on the pictures, at least they are posted!
But not good enough to tell you anything. Well exposed and focused close ups of the markings, and there are plenty! |
Photos of both sides, front, rear and top of assembled gun would be more helpful.

Yes, I'm having some difficulty getting used to the forum software. I thought I was uploading 2 pics, apparently only one made it. I'll try to get more detail pics of the markings on the metal and upload some more if I can figure out how to load multiple pics.

Try uploading one at a time under 'choose File' and "upload" I have over 20k posts and photographs over 20k or more! Take your time. ~ Eric
