As Tom states, it's more likely an obliterated Police property mark commonly found on the West German Police import guns from the 80s. The Russians would have put the X on the slide or next to the SN. I've never heard of or seen a Russian capture PP, although they possibly exist. The East Germans reworked and/or manufactured new PPs.
I think you would be much happier with a new PPK for carry, anyway. I love mine. Try to find an Interarms variation. I've heard that the S&W guns have problems, the extended tang is ugly and takes away from the compact concealability. Ron
