Question about Walther PP
 

Hi everyone, let me start off by wishing all of you and your families a Merry Christmas.
Now down to business. I have been wanting a nice PP or PPk for a while . An old High-school buddy of mine contacted me today with a Walther 32 caliber PP for sale. This one has Nitro proof Marks and a marking which looks like a "castle" on the right side behind the trigger with an "X" over it. He says it is a Russian capture mark. What do you say?
It is in about 92% condition and looks like original blueing. It also comes with a holster with the same "castle" mark.He wants $500. Do you guys think it is in the ballpark?

Now the gun. All Russian "X" guns that I've seen were reblued. Since this one is an exception, would like to see pix.

I've always preferred the longer barreled "PP" over the "PPK"...and I am very pleased with my Russian capture P38...

The re-bluing on my Russian capture is very well done; I thought it was original, too, especially since there was no buffing done...but it is reblued...and I would think yours is too...

Real hard to tell...I suspect they chemically strip the old finish (others say they just blue right over the old finish) and then blue them...without any buffing or sanding/grinding...

I dunno about the price; seems like it might be a bit high, but like they say - a bird in the hand... :thumbup:

What's the serial number? Price may be fair for a WW2, but a bit high for one of the postwar Police tradeins. Many of these have "X"ed out Police markings. TH

Mr. Heller, I remember the serial being in the 398xxx range. I'll have to go take another look after the weekend.
I've almost lost interest in it as quickly as I gained interest. I want one, but would really rather have a newer, stainless version PPK in 380 for concealed carry.

As Tom states, it's more likely an obliterated Police property mark commonly found on the West German Police import guns from the 80s. The Russians would have put the X on the slide or next to the SN. I've never heard of or seen a Russian capture PP, although they possibly exist. The East Germans reworked and/or manufactured new PPs.

I think you would be much happier with a new PPK for carry, anyway. I love mine. Try to find an Interarms variation. I've heard that the S&W guns have problems, the extended tang is ugly and takes away from the compact concealability.
