That standard C96 is beyond my understanding. The gun is mint. But it's a standard gun. Not supposed to carry 5-digit price yet. And, has Simpson's stamp on its butt... not supposed to drive bidders crazy.

Hopefully, my son can sell my standard C96 at this price in future

Julia auction is a little bit boring, everything is uniformly expensive. In contrast, gunbroker.com is much much more interesting. Good stuff could go low, and poor stuff could go high. Lots of surprises. Here is a reblued mixmaster Red 9, it goes $3225, bidders are competing for it !! Unexpected, huh? GB is like the wild west of late 19th century in numerous cowboy movies -- opportunity and challenge co-exist.

Not sure the meaning of the question.

You mean, assume you list a gun in an auction, and you bid it yourself with intention to pump the price up, but over played the game, "won" it in auction?

That must be the worst case scenario. You have to pay both seller's fee and buyer's fee to get the gun back welll,,, unless there was a under table agreement...

But I suspect some auction house may play this game. Otherwise, it's hard to explain why a gun could have hammer price $40k unsold, but later sold via haggling at $37k. There could be other reason, but who knows.

Let's assume everything is straight forward, not complication. Your gun hammer price is $10k, you are the winner, you pay $11.5k to auction house (15% BP), auction house pays you $8.5k (assume 15% SP substracted) and gives the back to you. You still have the gun, but lost $3k. Two shipping cost is not counted,,, for $10k gun, insured shipping,,, $200.

To cancel? No way. You won it, its yours. Assume it's a gun illegal in your state (e.g. a semi-auto assault rifle with certain features, that's illegal in quite a few places that I know. Or a dealer sample machine gun but you're not a SOT) -- is that a good reason to cancel? No. You still pay for it, but they can store the gun for you, help you selling it in next auction But, no cancel of payment.

Regarding inspection, supposedly, you should do inspection in preview. But I did hear some people successfully returned items back to auction houses. I really admire them.

So, don't bid your items yourself. Don't bid high unless you're sure about the condition. Know the local law before bidding, etc, etc. If won wrong items,,, that happens, it's just tuition, not end of the world.

Of course, if you can open an auction business, do it. It's a hot business these days.

Definitely. There is an agreement, usually printed on bidding form. Also on auctioneer's web site. Basicly saying you authorize them to charge your credit card, and if there is dispute, they are the judge.

Auction house usually is not a place to find great deal. But many collectors sell their lifetime collections via auction houses, so auctioneers do carry many nice items in each session. Some rare items seldom showing up in other places. Just like David previously mentioned, you won't find double rifles in GB. It's important for auctioneer to attract collector sellers. Have nice things to sell is very important for them.

For Lugers, that probably works. But for C96, that does not work well. At this stage, we don't simply need a gun, we need rare gun in good shape at acceptable price. Obviously, not easy. There are members posting C96s for sale, but the items did not look very attractive... Well, they have not listed their good ones yet If there are attractive ones, I will buy.
