Big Norm - if you�´re totally sure you�´re doing the right thing, I�´ll let you into a secret. There is a German word and it�´s "Mitgift". German tradition has it that the girl�´s family has to pay for a substantial dowry of silver cutlery, bed linen etc. etc. which then belongs to her husband. Men used to quite often marry just to procure the Mitgift. They were called "Mitgift J�¤ger" or dowry hunters. So, if you asked if there�´s a German word, her family might well have got the wrong idea. Patrick
