Die Selbstlade Pistole Parabellum...

This wording occurs in all Forum page banners, in the top right corner, and as I understand it this means "The Autoloading Pistol Parabellum".

I just received an email from a Forum visitor (who based on his name could be German or Greman extraction) who informs me the Selbstlade Pistole should be all one word, as in Selbstladepistole.

Could some of our German speaking members confirm this for me?

Thanks.

I don't speak German, but I found an English to German dictionary. "Selbstlader" means self-loader. Here's a neat site. http://www.refdesk.com

Got it. Here's a site that translates German to English.

http://www.translate.ru/ger/other.asp "Selbstladepistole" means "self-loading pistol" and of course "Selbstladepistole Parabellum" translates to "self-loading pistol for war"

Re: Die Selbstlade Pistole Parabellum...

The German language contains many nouns made up of run-together nouns and/or adjectives, so this sounds reasonable.

I was with a couple of Austrian friends a few years ago-driving around showing them the sights-went past a "Der Wienerschnitzel" joint. Next thing I know they are furiously arguing over whether it is "Der" or "Das" Wienerschnitzel.-Wanted to reach back and do a three stooges double slap on them.

Dok,

From my limited German, I thin it is supposed to be one word. This is a good question for Patrick to answer.

DOWRY OR DOWERY? :)

I need help too. I occasionally date a girl from Germany and I have talked to her parents a few times. But they say that there is not a word for dowery or dowry in German. Are they putting me on or are they exibiting typical German frugality? Maybe old German has it but new German doesn't.

Gruss Gott,Dok!

You could ( if you wanted to) carry it one step further. Parabellumselbstladendepistole! But

just because you could doesn't mean you

you have to!:)

Tschuss! Mark M.
