Can someone help me ID this pistol(MORE PICS ADDED)

I know this is not a luger but it is german and i figured someone on here could help out. I just got this today, It came with a holster and 2 mags with matching serial numbers. I looked in the blue book but couldn't find anything. Please help, any and all info would be great or where to find it. I was told to look on this forum by some of the people on the smith&wesson forum. thanks...

Hi George,

Welcome to the forum. You have a very collectable and fairly scarce German Jäger Pistol. These were made from approx. 1914 thru 1917-18. About 13,000 were produced, and offered for private purchase to German Officers, who were required to buy their own sidearms.

That is a terrific find and brings the total number of Jäger pistols reported to date to an even 90. Your gun has the added advantage of being one of only 25 with Imperial acceptance marks. And two matching magazines is also very rare (only 3 reported so far)!
Could we see a photo of the holster? Thanks.

The holster is a later WWII era Walther PP-PPK holster. If this pistol was used in WWII, as many early hand guns were. It could have been used as a replacement.

I would like to say thanks to everyone that has posted, This is all great infromation. I found this gun at an older friends house who is selling off all his gun's and ammo. I've already asked where it came from but he doesn't remember. I never thought i would find a gun with such history. In the very short time i have been on this forum you all have been very helpful, I'm a S&W guy but maybe I'll have to start looking at other German side arms. I would also add that i will be at the OGCA show next weekend and I am bring the Jager with me (just for show) row I table 5. Thanks again.....

As Rbrooks45 has stated, $1500 is a good price for such a scarce gun...two matching magazines and Imperial acceptance really puts that icing on the cake. But, as Alvin has pointed out, it has highly specialized collector appeal so there is a limited buyer population. It is a collector's prize and would easily bring $1500 and more to the right buyer, but the "right" buyer may not be readily available in the current economic crunch. For myself, I would hang on to it. But again, as Alvin has also said, you have to like it more than what else $1500 could buy. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

The most amazing thing to me about the Jager, is the way it was designed and assembled. Most of it's parts were stamped out; way ahead of it's time. You have to disassemble one, to fully appreciate the design. TH

I envy the person that invested $2300, they got a superior item and at that price level they obviously are a collector and not looking for a quick resale profit. Congratulations to you George, I think you did well on the sale.
