Hi RK,
Only to point out a possible misunderstanding, in fact in France the rank of Major is Commandant. A Commandant could be a chief of escadron or a chief of battalion. I hope this helps. Ciao

I love this guy's Belgian translations. Really colorful.
German/English = Dutch (Belgium/Netherlands) Soldat/Private = Soldaat Gefreiter = Soldaat-1 (or Soldaat eerste klas) Korporal/Corporal = Korporaal Zugsfuhrer/Sergeant = Sergeant Feldwebel/Sergeant-Major = Sergeant-Majoor Fahnrich/Warrant Officer = Vaandrig Leutnant/Lieutenant = Luitenant Hauptmann/Captain = Kapitein Major/Major = Majoor Oberst/Colonel = Kolonel General/General = Generaal I must note that I left the army with the same rank I entered it with. None... |

Those ranks are for the standard Army (Wehrmacht) whereas the Waffen SS had their own, and very different, rank designations
