Has anyone ever seen a magazine with "Cal. 9mm" script on bottom but also with concentric circles (like a Navy magazine)?
Unfortunately I don't have a picture, and I need to know if this could be original or not. [I asked this on Jan's site too, because I need to know by tomorrow to make a buy decision] Thanks - Geo

Geo,
Most Cal. 9m/m marked magazines are fakes. A concentric circle mag base would only add to the attraction of the unwary. If you cannot compare it to a known genuine sample, or get first-hand confirmation from someone who actually knows what a real Cal. 9m/m stamp looks like, stay very far away. --Dwight |

It is very easy. The repro 9mm's last m has a cursive connected upward tail on it. Originals have a last m with no upward tail at all, but there is a distinct and separate comma after the m.

Nah, that is only a small bit of the differences between original and repro...so wait until more comes to light so that the fakers will have a better and more complete guideline.

Yes there are a many more differences or errors in the repro 9mm bottoms. But just in general I disagree with the "It only helps the fakers" philosophy. I believe that knowledge is the key to defeating them.
To me an example would be: "The FBI says there are fake $100 dollar bills circulating in your area. But we aren't going to tell you what is wrong with them because that only helps the counterfeiters!" |
