Hello all, I am brand new here. I have inherited a Luger and know absolutely nothing about it. I have read a few threads on here and I know I am in the right place to find some information. These are the only photos I have on this computer, if you need any additional photos please let me know.

Welcome to the forum. Larger photos would help also. The ones you posted are way to small.

Top of the gun, the part you pull up to make the action open. The top should have letters on it and it should be stylized DWM...

Hi Paul, and welcome to the forum.
The pictures that you are posting don't have enough detail in them. Typically, you should size a photo with at least 1024 pixels of detail along the wide or tall axis. We need to see the top of your Luger, and photos of all the markings externally visible. You need to check to see if the numbered internal parts match the serial number. Please ensure that your Luger is unloaded before handing it, and also photograph your empty magazine, including any markings on the base. I'd also like to see the detail of the inlay that is on each grip... It's quite unusual. When you take additional photos, use a tripod, and take them in indirect (shaded) sunlight without a flash. Use the closeup setting on your digital camera. Marc

Thanks Marc, I will refresh the thread when I get back in town and take more photos. Here is a closeup of the inlay.

Although slathered in grease, the gun looks refinished, based on the soft lines, (lack of crisp edges) and dished out proofs.
I have never seen this particular Nazi eagle and swastika symbol before. It is not official, to the best of my knowledge and must have been a civilian produced piece of jewelry or similar, which was appropriated by a GI and inlaid into the grips. |

True, anything is possible. But it's sure not a factory modification, nor a government contractor modification. If it's modified by a well known historical figure or involved in important historical event with provenance, that will attract history collectors.... or, if it's the instance used in a recent famous movie , that will attract some collectors.

It sure looks like a holster.
The owner should post everything they received so a true valuation can be made. |

Ok all,
Here are some additional photos of the artillery Luger and as an added bonus I have some pictures of another Luger. As always, any information is greatly appreciated. I have only one magazine and I believe it is for the standard one. There may still be more in Grandpa's safe, will have to check. As far as I can tell, all external parts are numbers matching. I will have to get someone to take it apart to confirm the inner parts. Last edited by txnewb; 08-08-2013 at 09:30 PM. |

I think you have a couple of nice Lugers. An Erfurt P08 and a DWM LP08.
The lack of detail and lighting makes it very difficult to judge their finish or markings. Sharp focus, well lit, with more resolution will help. Go to a digital camera and tripod if you're using a cellphone camera.

Thank you mrerick. I will bust out the digital camera and replace these pictures with some better ones. One question: Any ideas on the large ink stamp on the holster?

The short Erfurt looks great. The finish is original, and even the magazine's matching!
The long one was refurbished. |
