Ron, if all original then $1k is a heck of a deal. However, I would say it has been reblued and restrawed. The strawing appears too nice for a 95 year old gun IMHO and blueing is awfully nice too. Also, the sideplate should have an Erfurt acceptance marking, it would look like the one on the front of the triggerguard.
The grips appear to be nice wood ones to me, a picture from the rear would prove or disprove that. There were 10,000 1911 Erfurt's made, so not a common gun to pick up. Ed

Ron,
I concur with Ed's assessment that the gun has been refinished and enhanced with a "matching" DWM side plate. In addition, the gun appears to have been buffed fairly heavily. Note the rounded corners, and most especially the obliterated rectangular to round chamfer at the front of the receiver and the completely buffed out Erfurt eagle in front of the other proof marks. In addition, there should be Erfurt proofmarks on the extractor and front sight which are not visible in the photos but may be present. Sorry but this is not a collector grade luger. FYI, I have a buffed, mismatched 1911 Erfurt as well - a nice shooter. The great thing about shooters is that you can shoot them - enjoy. KFS |
