Magazine Question

I have a 1915 DWM. SN # 292xi.....What is a proper magazine for this luger????

Silver body (nickeled?), wrap around design, wooden bottom with serial number on the bottom.

Rule of thumb, prior to mid 1920's all bottoms were wood, then they started to switch over, some exceptions but that is fairly true for German Lugers.

Aluminum for all Mausers until about 1941 (?) when fxo plastic bottoms appeared. You will find aluminum and black plastic at same time (technically not plastic).

You brought up Signal....I have looked around for Luger books and manuals, some are very pricey to say the least....It there any that are good for basic information to get started with??? You people are great at sharing your knowledge and expertise, but I would like to have a reference to be able to go to....I have them for my 1911's , M1 Carbine's and M1 Garand's and use them all the time...But there's parts problems with them that the luger apparently does not have as bad....The lugers apparently have not went through a mass rebuild fiasco....

I started with John Walter's "The Luger Book", in soft cover, reasonably priced, can be found at most any gunshow and eBay as well...

Just purchased a copy from Alibris.com for $19.79 +$3.50 shipping....It's suppose to be in good shape....They have others that are as cheap, if anyone needs one....

I have a 1916 DWM that was reworked for police use with a sear safety. It has a magazine with an aluminum bottom with a matching number (but no letter), and a number 2 on it. Apparently the original magazine in 1916 would have had a wood bottom. Is the correctly numbered aluminum bottom something it acquired in the police rework?

Yes, police guns were apparently re-issued with alloy bottom mags numbered to that gun. Seems like it is more common to find these combos correctly numbered than it is with the military guns.
