New to lugers: Need help with two identifications please

My grandfather is currently storing two lugers at my house. I have always wanted to know more about them and I've been told this is the place to look.

The images are in my albums. The .22 came in the styrofoam box its shown in.

The 9mm has the leather holster, ammo, and an extra clip (broken).

Any information on these two weapons would be awesome.

I am currently trying to place the pictures into my post.

Your 42 byf was made by Mauser and is a very desirable model; it looks to be in great condition too. Can't identify the holster but your broken magazine can be easily repaired by simply installing a replacement wood bottom or probably even by removing the pin holding the broken piece and glueing the two broken pieces together. Then just reinstall with the pin.

Your Erma .22 is also a very desirable model and should make a fun and reliable shooter. It was actually made in Germany and has the same great handling qualities as the full sized Luger.

I would say that you have lots of shooting/collecting fun in your future as well as the start of a fine collection.

edit: You will probably find that Winchester full metal ball will feed better in your byf 42 than the Norma soft points although you might be surprised to find that they will work fine also.

I am not much of a shooter of collectable guns, and although some folks will say that parts don't break often, but I have broken a breachblock, luckily it was already on a shooter.

So, point is, your byf 42 is probably worth $1500 and if you broke any numbered part, the value could go from $1500 to $600-$800...

The holster is not for a luger, and I am not sure what it is for.

The holster is for a Radom, It has been cut however for a Luger mag and ruined to some extent.

Your holster appears to be for a Radom, Mod 35p.

Your Luger, as mentioned, was made by Mauser and completed around April 1942. Nice pistol.

Should there be a bore diameter under the number on the barrel and do the grips look correct?

Remember it's not a good idea to store a firearm in a leather holster as it can cause rust due to the moisture held in the leather.

Thank you for the valuable information everyone, I also have a colt .32 here that I don't know too much about. Is it possible that the holster belongs to it?

I definitely won't be shooting either of these, I find them much more valuable as a collectors item than a shooter.

The holster as Jerry and Frank stated is for a Polish Radom. Very nice luger. The plastic bottom mag. is correct for your luger. The wood bottom one is for earlier lugers (primarily ww1). Welcome to the Forum. Bill

M, Since most of your questions have been answered above, I can only add that the mag spring should be installed in your WW1 mag with the spring guide at the TOP. I do have new perfect unmarked wood mag bottoms available @$35 + $3 S&H. The Erma LA model 64, likes standard velocity ammo and is worth about $250 LNIB. TH

DJU, the barrel is correct. Mauser stopped marking the bore diameter about the Middle D-Block in 1942.
