Unmarked Luger?
I've come across an "unmarked" luger pistol and would like to know who made it and the value. All serial numbers match on it, but there is no date on the chamber and no markings on the toggle. It has the stock lug, German proof marks, and no import marks. The only numbers that is different on it is a 168. on the front of the mag well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could you please show how the sideplate and takedown lever are numbered? No chamber date? Your middle toggle has a grind mark on it, which would indicate a removed "DWM".
Your pistol is also missing its takedown spring. |

'29 DWM also known as1933 Sneak. Serial suffixes were some late r's, and s,t,u. It is a police pistol as evidenced by the sear safety, the riveted narrow piece of steel on top of the sideplate. Are the last 2 digits of the serial number hidden? That is, on lower edge of sideplate and the takedown lever? Any letters/numbers on the front gripstrap?
Some of these do have the DWM on the center link, none of them are dated. Yours is perfectly normal. |

From the additional pictures... The takedown lever and side plate are both numbered in the style of a commercial Luger from DWM.
The pistol has the sear safety used by the police, and shows evidence of the removal of a magazine safety as well. Is the brown material dried grease? Is there a shim of some type between the frame and receiver up front, or is that dried grease / cosmoline? If it's rust, you should take things apart and begin an oil soak and gentle steel wool removal of the red iron oxide. The proof marks on the receiver and barrel are from the Weimar era after WW-I and before 1936. Marc

Any idea as to the value of this one? The mag looks to be SS and is marked made in Switzerland so not original.
