Everything about the holster looks right, but the P38 stamp is a total mystery. The P38 was still being designed in 1934

Im curious as to what year the P-38 was finally issued.?....I had originally thought it wasn't until around 1942......but then Ive seen some ads on Gunbrokers...etc...for 1941 era P-38s...and have been thinking of picking up a 1941 P-38 after I get thru my search for a good DWM 1918......anyway...what is the consensus on the issue date of the P-38.?..

The first "P38s" (actually commerically designated the HP until German military acceptance in 1940) were shipped to Sweden in 1939. TH

So, getting back to the holster. A complete fake? Maybe re-worked and re-issued for a P38? Maybe the seller photo'ed 2 holsters by mistake?

Do my eyes deceive me/optical illusion, or does the magazine pouch appear to be P38 size. See below: First photo is back of this holster; second photo is another Luger holster. In another auction photo, it does seem to show the cutouts for the luger mag base at the top of the mag pouch.

I posted it on the P38 forum for comments. Sorry for drawing attention to it if it is some super rare holster. Proof of Nazi time travel!

I am far, far from knowledgable on holsters but from an observation from reading 3rd Reich Lugers around page 110-111 and an example shown on p.124, it makes mention of ALL holsters in 1934 and some of 35 to have an extra flap over the takedown tool for a patches and a cleaning rod. The example being discussed with the P38 stamp doesn't appear to show that from what I am seeing.

Searching around the web, other pictures of 1934 holsters from the same manufacturer had the cleaning rod "slot" and flap.

The mag pouch lengths are obviously(to me anyway) different if you look closely. With that said I think both are legit holsters as I have yet to see a holster that has replicated that goofy 2 that looks more like a question mark on cxb 42's! Maybe the seller forgot to get a pic of the back of the luger holster and used the p38 holster or maybe they simply mixed up the pictures?"

I had the thought that the ad might have photos from two different holsters. Glad Greg adds credibility to that notion. I was hesitant to make that call because I freely admit I know very little about WWII stuff. (made after 1918 you know

Greg is right on the money. The cut/shape of the back, the way the front lid comes way down, no stitching at the right bottom of the left belt loop..deffinately an original P-38 holster and does not belong to the 1934!

Guy just got mixed up..
