Default Odd markings inside grip.

Does anyone have a clue about this stamped mark? If I do the grip cleaning procedure, this will likely go away.

Original or repro grips?

Any ideas?

Haven't figured out the hand lettering either, but I'm pretty sure that isn't factory... (!!)

Your avatar is very creepy. Are you trying to emulate Tiny Tim?

Z,It's difficult to tell from your photo, but the inside of the grip shown appear to be original and the marking could be a Mauser spare parts code --- L-S42, but I've never seen one lke it. Having been a Bay Area resident for over 20 years, I know that your area is where Old Hippies and rich folk go to retire. TH

I guess "Miss Vickie" doesn't ring a bell either. I guess you're too dang young, or, we're too dang old. (Readers choice.)

All the best,

Gunny John.

PS. Do a Google image search on "Tiny Tim." (Careful, you may want to change your avatar if you do. )

I'm not young by any means, but I've never been too up on popular culture so there's the occasional reference I just don't get.

I'm exactly halfway between the rich folk and the hippies - hippies to the north, richies to the south!

LugerDoc - check your PMs! ETA: I also just sent an email.

Ok, I went and googled Tiny TIm - an ugly spud, isn't he?

Other than the long hair, I don't see any resemblance!

I'll take a squint at it "sideways" and see if I can make out anything more - to me it looks like L-54... last digit undecipherable. L-S42 would make sense though. If its a spare parts code, do you think it was a spare part swapped in later? We'll probably never know.

here is zorba's web site. http://www.doubleveil.net/index.htm

Actually, there is one or two in Florida - not counting visitors. I get out that way once in a while, and there's one guy (at least) who is a regular at the Orlando Belly Dance festivals.

In 1980, I had a girlfriend who was taking her master's degree in Speech Pathology at Ithaca College. While walking across campus one day, she overheard one freshman say to another, "Did you know Paul McCartney used to be in another band? Yeah. It was called "the Beatles."

Oh, and I'm seeing "L-S45".

Yes. Yes he is.

.. and the stamping that I see is L-5455... no "S"

I suspect that this is not an original marking...because I think they are aftermarket grips. This probably happened somewhere in the post-war period by some retailer...

That's what I see too - and THANK YOU for the info. It agrees with common sense too.

Took a longer look; you are correct, sir! I'd noticed the sort of straight line aspect to the upper left of the character that was initially diagnosed as an "S" but let slide this evidence that it was something other than an s. sorry, my mistake.

Sometimes it's difficult for us to get past the first impressions others post before us, sort of jumping on the same bandwagon; prompted by these biases, we think we see what we're supposed to see.
