DDR Lugers
Most folks don't know that there were about 125 brand new luger frames made at Suhl. These were used on guns made up of new and used parts.
The frames were usually assigned a serial number between N-1000 and N-1120. They were all proofed with the DDR postwar proofs on the frames. Finish and machining was quite rough. There was no provision for a stock or lanyard. These are considered the last military Parabellums made and at least one was sold by Simpson ...asking price was over $6K. There was an article in the SCHWEIZER WAFFENMAGAZIN in about 1984 which details all the known info. The Shadow Knows! |

Re: DDR Lugers
Shadow; is this for real? I bought one of these for a guy a couple of years ago, and he still has it! Where can I find information on it?

Re: DDR Lugers
Yes...it is for real...and the only written info I have ever seen was in that magazine which is published in Switzerland.[in German]
Other than that, and whatever Simpson will tell you, you are on your own! If you can get it cheap...I would get it! The shadow |

Re: DDR Lugers
When I ordered it, it was supposed to be a WW11 model. I knew it wasn"t when I saw it. I'll get in touch with the guy and tell him the GOOD news. Thanks for the info.

Re: DDR Lugers
Lonnie, I also own one of these new production DDR PO8 #N1008 with 2 maching magazines in a like new DDR hardshell pig skin holster. This is a true all new production one with unique EG wide TD lever, Toggle pieces only marked with the EG crown/N and also on new barrel dated 653 (june 1953). So far the only reference that I've found published on these, is a couple of photos in Warren Buxton's "The P38 Pistol" Vol 3 pages 10-39 (includes his info on DDr P38s) but interesting reading for those of you with EG reworks and lots of proof info that is applicable to both pistols. I've received Warren's serial number data on the N-series P38s and so far I haven't found any duplicate on an N-series PO8. It's possible that both pistols fall in the same N range of 125 to 150 pistols, that would even make them rarer. I'd welcome any N-prefix serial number data of lugers and P38s that the forum members can provide to resolve this matter. Thanks, Tom h

Re: DDR Lugers
Tom; I will get with the fellow that has this gun and try to get information to you. Is it really worth big bucks? I don:t want him to get exicted over nothing.

N Prefix guns
They are different productions runs, Tom.
Lugers + P38's + PP's with the same N prefix Serial Numbers have been reported.. I have one of the N Prefix P38's... Also Luger N prefix mags with the same no. as a P38 have been reported, A postwar PP with an N prefix is also reported that duplicates a P38 number..[by Alex] .so, they must have made at least 3 runs with new frames all using the N prefix.
