Another method that has seen some success on grips that are not very loose is to use neoprene O-rings that are exactly the same size, or slightly smaller than the diameter of the grip screw. The neoprene crushes softly and takes up the space between the screw and the grip without any kind of permanent modification to either...
You can find them in most large home stores like Home Depot or Lowes, and probably other large hardware stores... just take a grip screw with you to make sure you get the right size.
