Thanks for the information you provided on the "Ed's Red" mixture. I have seen a number of postings on other sites that they swear by this mixture and it works. I have never tried this myself, has anyone had any experience?

JB bore cleaner
 

I recently used JB Bore Cleaner from Brownells to help break in a new Marlin 45-70 Guide Gun. It really seemed to work well: it easily cleaned the barrel and during the first break-in session there was progressively less fouling after each shot string even with a final sequence using Buffalo Bore's 2000 fps 405 grain killer loads (talk about vicious recoil, the rifle was not the only thing being broken in...). It is a paste and seemed to polish the barrel, reduce fouling, and ease subsequent cleaning.


I don't think that I would recommend this for continual use because of the abrasive it contains despite all of the assurances on the lable and in the Brownell catalogue, but it might be just the thing for a neglected or frosty and pitted Luger barrel on a shooter. As a matter of fact, I know of a couple that probably couldn't be hurt anyway...
