K Date Luger

Gentlemen:

I have been in search of a K Date Luger and found this one for sale by FGS Inc. on GunsAmerica. I asked for and received the attached additional pictures. I've researched Jan's book "Third Reich Lugers" on the K Dates and this example seems to fit with the descriptions and photos. One thing I did notice was that the side plate does not have the scriptic S along with the two-digit SN. According to Jan, these either had all their small parts marked with a scriptic or gothis S, or none of the parts were so marked.

As this example has the scriptic S on all parts with the exception of the side plate I'm not certain of its authenticity. Any thoughts on the authenticity of this Luger or other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bob, In my opinion, this K-Date is early enough to have the "S" stamped on the trigger plate.

I own 3412 and 6101 and they both have the "S" stamp trigger plate.

Later versions are marked like all other Military Mauser Lugers, see page 26 of Still's "Third Reich Lugers". These higher serial numbered K-Dates do not have the "S" stamp on any of the small parts (only the center toggle link).

While the K-Date appears to be a nice pistol, it has been messed with, IMHO!! Run away from this one. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Based on the image, it is my opinion that the sideplate is incorrect for this pistol. In addition to missing the 'S', the finish is not consistent with the rest of the pistol.

Albert, my sentiments exactly on the sideplate. The stamping on the mag looks pretty DEEP too!

Frank, Albert,Thor:

Thanks for your feedback and observations. I was also suspicious of the sideplate and am very suspicious whenever a pistol comes with 2 matching mags. I agree with Thor's observations on the mag(s) as well. I really appreciate your honest evaluations and they are very helpful to a novice like myself. It's a great learning opportunity in both researching the literature and then gaining knowledge from those of you that have learned through your personal experiences.

Best Regards,
Bob

rah in still's third reich lugers, page 25-26 it shows k date #8049 and 131a without s on the side plates. and on page 24 is #8023 just 26 numbers lower with a s23 on side plate, so maybe the gun has the right side plates.

Rah:
If your pictures are of two mags, both mags have the "+" indicating a spare or 2nd mag. Original or #1 mag would not be marked with a "+".
