Stuck sear bar plunger???......any tricks??
 

Hi to all! I have a sear bar with a plunger stuck, pushed in flush! Any body have any tricks to share before I start grinding/drilling! Thanks! till.....later....G.T.

Soak it in pentrating oil like KROIL for a few days, of perhaps put it in the oven at around 300 degree F for an hour, sometimes that will loosen things up! This is a trick I use when I CAINT get the 3/64" +- (I know it is really metric) diameter retainer pin, small little stubborn sucker! Thor

If you have any of the old Hoppes #9 left, I would try it. It has worked for me in the past!! Good Luck!

If it doesn't pop out after soaking, knock out the retaining pin, and using a very fine pointed tool, you can move the plunger a little bit to loosen it.

Round the point on anything that you use to push the plunger.

Any scratches will make the trigger pull rough and un predictable.

Finely polish the plunger tip when finished this will help smooth the trigger pull.

Hey G.T. - After soaking in penetrating oil...
 

Drive out the retaining pin and Clamp the sear solidly but without crushing force in a vice grip tool near the rear end (not hard enough to make any teeth marks on it) and then wallop the vice grip (not the sear) against a piece of hardwood (like that portion of a 98K mauser stock that you can't use for Luger mag bottoms) so that the direction of the force is in the direction you want the stuck plunger to go... this would be similar to using a bullet puller hammer. CAVEAT! Take extreme caution not to wallp the fingers between the wood and the vice grip !


You can't hurt the sear this way and eventually the plunger will pop out due to the inertia being stopped by the impact with the wood... probably a good idea to put the wood on a large soft cloth so that when the plunger pops out it won't ricochet across the room with the spring never to be found again. If it doesn't work the first session, then back to the penetrating oil for a day, and repeat the wallop process till it does work. No chance of any damage to the sear or plunger using this method.


next time put the spring into the sear first before installing the plunger Gerry ! It will make removal a little easier, not to mention the pistol will function much better (just kidding G.T.)

I have had em get stuck (well, once, anyway). I actually used Clenzoil to free it up. Just kept it soaked for awhile and it slowly started to come back out with some gentle coaxing.

GT, If the spring is shot and the plunger (disconnector) will not move out, then use Hugh's suggestion and remove small pin and push plunger out a bit with a curved dental pik enough to grab and remove with pliers. Tom h.
