I hope these grips aren't as good as he claims.

Thanks for the heads up on Dan Chapman's new repro grips. I hope that his production fits better than the ones from Vintage or NC ordnance. I wish that they DID have the high polish borders of the originals, but no one seems to be able to accomplish this. Tom h.

The auction ad claims...not a gloss shine on the exterior surface

that "They do NOT have the phony looking high gloss shine of the low quality repros sold elsewhere."

The fact is that the REAL ones DO have a high gloss finish on the border, and his photo in the auction does not. I think these would be fine "shooter class" working grips but shouldn't be the basis for forgery of a Black Widow grip if they are as advertised.

regards,

John

Re: black widow grips

I've seen flexable urethane repros. They look shiney/wet.

When we poured urethane at work we'd use a spray type mold release agent which contributes to the wet look.

At a gunshow a dealer had a duller looking nonflexable pair which had a whitish color in the crevasses. We also used a special paste wax as a release which would would result in this look. The dealer didn't claim they were originals or say much about them except that he wanted $60.

Repro bw grips that approach being indistinguishable from the originals is not a good thing, IMO. Slap a pair of inexpensive bw grips on a byf with damaged/mismatched wooden ones and voila a several hundred dollar increase.

"Let the buyer beware", is ever current.
