Shooting WWII pistols
Went to the range today, brought several WWII guns
http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775424&size=1 1944 Browning High Power, 1918 Erfurt P08 (one of Ted's first restorations), 1942 VIS 35 Radom, 1944 BYF P38, and a 1944 Remington 1911A1. Target distance was 30'. I was using 3x5" index cards with a sticky for targets. http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775427&size=1 http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775426&size=1 To set a baseline for my shooting I took my CZ P01Tactical. Its the most accurate hand gun I have. Bullets are 124g lrn or 124g plated. http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775425&size=1 I started with the CZ. Had no problem keeping 5 round groups on the card. http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775429&size=1 Next was the P38. http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775430&size=1 Not at all as easy http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775432&size=1 VIS 35 Radom followed http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775434&size=1 http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775435&size=1 Browning High Power http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775443&size=1 http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775436&size=1 P08 http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775438&size=1 http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775437&size=1 1911A1 http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775441&size=1 http://www.hunt101.com/watermark.php?file=775442&size=1 P08 was the most accurate, next the 1911A1. Worst was the BHP. Trigger is really bad. I had no stoppages of any type. Granted the sights aren't modern, they are old and not as accurate but every one would have done their job. |
Randall..Very cool evaluation! Nicely done and presented...Must have been fun!

Your results with your P-38 mirror my results with mine. I like shooting the pistol, but never pleased with the results. Maybe I need to shoot it more.
I usually am pleased with shooting my Lugers, BHPs, and 1911s, but I am not a Camp Perry quality shooter....never have been. I still enjoy competing against myself these days. Thanks for your post, I enjoyed it. |
Nice collection and range report.

My byf43 p38 shoots low left and is much less accurate than my 1915 DWM Luger.

thanks for the kind words - went shooting today with another classic. Will post results later

Excellent, i remember very fondly when you and I went shooting and the great dinner I had with you and your lovely wife.
