1940 code"42" in 7.65
 

Any information on the how many were chambered in 30 Luger.

Mike is correct.
There were Commercial pistols chambered for 7,65mm Para rounds made by Mauser until the end of the production run in late 1942. However, NONE of them, to my knowledge, had a military secret code on the toggle: all beared the Mauser banner, as far as I know.

Post some pics...maybe the experts here can determine what you have... :)

The barrel is coded and matched to the rest of the pistol. The barrel guage is also 9MM. More than likely a typo on the paperwork. Have you checked to see if it chambers a 9MM? I doubt that the barrel has been sleeved to 7.65 luger.

Hmph! That does look like a "6,81"...The first & second number stamps are different...However, my 7.65 Luger commercial barrel measures 7.60mm land-to-land, not 6.81mm...But "8,81" would be a 9mm barrel...

It could have been sleeved...Lots of basement gunhacks do sleeving... ;)

Bruce, you don't have to hide the serial number...the original owner died long ago and his government is not likely to want it back... :D

8.81 on the barrel and it appears that the witness marks line up. I agree with gill, somebody flubbed the papers.

Can you take a pic of the end of the barrel [muzzle], and if you can, the chamber, showing the step???

It's odd that the capture papers say 7.65, since that is not anywhere on the gun...and the clerks/officers who did the paperwork had no clue what caliber enemy weapons were...It's common to see a Luger shown as "38" on a capture paper...But I would expect that if it was captured, it would be shown as 9mm...(Even if it wasn't)...

It could have been sleeved by a POW or armorer for sale/trade to a US soldier at or after the end of the war...Might have been shot out...

Looks like a 9mm to me, I don't see a "step" in the chamber.

9mm....the 9mm casing does stick out of the breech about 1/8th

OK Bruce - Since you have both a 7.65mm and a 9mm Luger cartridge, try this - Stick the bullet end in the muzzle and compare it to the attached pic...

(The 7.65 in a 9mm will swallow the case neck as well...)
