1908 Commercial date of manufacture?

I just purchased a 1908 Commercial and I am trying to gather more information on it. I would really like to find out how to link the serial number to the date of manufacture. Do any of you folks know if there is a listing of this somewhere. I have looked in two books but so far no luck. I am happy to have found a forum with such helpful people and interesting topics. Sorry to admit it, but I shot my Luger for the first time last week and I am hooked!!! Thanks!

Ron

Ron, there is a cronological listing in Fred Datig's book "The Luger Pistol" by Borden Publishing, 1962, Try

http://abooksearch.com. for one that might be available.

Dear Ron -

According to Fred Datig's book, page 36 'Chronological serial number listing', your 1908 Commerical should have a number between 52001 - 53000. This refers to DWM-manufactured pistols only. Beware, says Mr Datig- he COULD be wrong, as there are no factory record.

The 1908 Commercials begin to show up in the late 30,000 range. The earliest I have record of is 39142.

Fred Datig's book is frequently auctioned on eBay too from bargain to

bankrupt prices

I looked up in the serial number range charts. I have a 1908 commercial that is the 59,000 range. It is a 1908 as it has no stock lug and no hold open.

Mine is a 1908 with no stock lug but it does have a hold open catch. The serial number is in the low 51,000 range, but I was wondering about when it was made. I will have to try to find the book by Fred Datig. I bid on a few on ebay but so far not able to be there when it closed so I lost them.
