NEW, need help, bolt issue
 

HI, Im NEW here and NEW to lugers ( as far as owning ) Have had p-38's for ever , anyway.
I won a 1920 DWN comm. luger. Once i took it apart i noticed it
looks like the bolt rear has been repaired with brass? looks like a old repair or is it a repair in the 1st place?
So question is : is it a repair? should i ask for a refund on the gun ? or a part refund? does it lower its value?

Welcome to the forum! Yes, this is a brazed repair to your toggle at the point where the striker's spring and plunger fit into the toggle. This was damaged somehow, most likely from an over pressured round.

So then, is it safe to shoot? looks done a long time ago? how much does it de value the gun?

Hi afsocv22, it most certainly kills the collector value... as it's not really even acceptible as a shooters, shooter?? Meaning, it's only good until it fails, and the trust factor would be pretty thin in my estimation.... As for the refund, depends on what you paid...:eek:... But, that being said, if you decide to keep it, then an adjustment should be possible... You're about to find out about "Integrity" in the gun sales arena... Some got it, some don't... :jumper: At any rate, If you keep it and want to replace the breechblock, let me know I have a spare in excellent condition un-numbered... as they sometimes, (correctly) were... unfortunately its a poor repair,that is not going to have,even close to the strength of the original. If it was welded right, you might not have know. certainly can be saved with a new breech block like GT suggested.

from the few pics, IMO, it appears to be refinished too.

I guess it boils down to what it was worth as to the "prize value"you won.
