Need help with value

10 Attachment(s)
I traded for this P-08 last week and originally thought it was just a parts gun with an interesting unit marking. With Don Maus' help it has been determined to be a correct pistol, so it's value has gone up from what I thought it was worth in the trade. So I need to know what a fair value for this pistol is so I can makeup the difference.

Many thanks for the help.

Cheers
Gary

Gary, i did not see the previous discussion, but its barrel has been replaced. Which yes, is very possible by the police armorer's, however, without any serial number on the barrel, some could say it was put on there later.

It has a matching wood magazine, but is missing the sear safety; not an easy piece to pick up if you wanted to replace it.

I would say $700-$900

If you or a buyer truely beleive the barrel is period then $900-$1000 IMHO

I believe the barrel is period :). I would tend to go for Ed's upper value, but the lack of the sear safety does detract a bit.

Hello and thank you. Don Maus feels it is period done and gave me a very nice basic history line of the pistol. It definately raises the value of the pistol from what we had agreed on so I will make good to the other party.

Thanks gentlemen!

It's good to find an honest man. Good on you, Gary!

The previous discussion of this pistol was on the Wehrmacht Awards forum that I happened to be visiting. The pistol was a former LP08, probably used by the Prussian Landjägerei until it was returned to the PTV in 1929 to be reworked as a P08. At that time, the barrel was replaced with one manufactured by Simson (note the E/6). It was then reissued to the Landjägerei of the district of Trier following the withdrawal of French occupation forces on 30 June 1930. While the mag safety was probably deactivated by the police in 1937, I believe the gun was subsequently transferred to the military where the sear safety was removed. Although they are few in number, I have noticed that most, if not all, of the Landjägerei Lugers from Trier have had their sear safeties removed. For example, see this thread: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=23910.

Should the 1915 DWM have the artillery sight cut-away like the Erfurts? If not, does the rear toggle link on this one match and does it have a rear sight?

It should have if it was originally an LP08 as was this one (see http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=20449). Also, the replaced rear toggle link may have a small */D police acceptance stamp on it.

My Trier marked DWM still has the sear safety intact, mag safety has been clipped. I'll have to dig it out this weekend and see what weapon number it is marked as. It also was an artillery and has a replacement simson barrel.

Don M 06-22-2011 11:36 AM

Steve, did you ever dig this pistol out? Does it have a Landjägerei marking?

SteveM 06-22-2011 06:56 PM

No, I haven't. I recently got another safe so I will be doing some rearranging. I'll post the details then. Lack of room in the other made it impossible to get to some things without it becoming an ordeal.

Don,
What does the "W" under the trigger guard in the last picture represent?

Thank you
William

Bill, I wish I knew. These marks have been discussed many times on the forums and in books and, to my knowledge, no satisfactory interpretation has been offered.
