Update and Headcount â?? LugerFest 2002

For all that have let us know you expect to attend the March 2-3 events in Phoenix, thanks! So far, we have twenty-two confirmed for going to Ralph and Nancy Shattucks and three folks who have expressed an interest to either Ralph or I in attending.

Based on the size of the prospective group, we would ask that if you have not Registered at http://www.lugerforum.com/quiz/wol.htm, you please do so as soon as possible. Additionally, it is probably best that we break into two groups â?? with a morning session and an afternoon session. Ted and I are trying to come up with some local activities for the gang who isnâ??t at WOL to be entertained with â?? so any help from â??localsâ? would be terrific!

There is also a slight change of plans for that evenings Banquet. Both Ralph and Nancy Shattuck have insisted that they are not only the hosts of the Banquet, but invite all to be their dinner guests. In other words, all meal expenses will be complimentary to all attendees (bar tabs not included, but there is a bar at the location). Personally, I would like to publicly thank both Ralph and Nancy for their generosity and support â?? as not are they graciously opening their home to us, but insist on feeding us as well. To Ralph and Nancy, our sincerest â??Thank Youâ?!

This is a current list of attendees to Ralphâ??s showroom (the list below does not include the dinner count, as many will be bring their travel partners to that event separately). If you donâ??t see your name listed, please do register in the near future. We look forward to meeting many of you soon!

Confirmed - Luke Smithwick, Les Center, Edward B Tinker, Ted Green (2), Hugh Clark, Dan Clemons, Robert J Tracy, Marvin Cook, Bill Stanley (2), Ad Yeaman (2), David Larson (2), Bill Forsythe (2), Gerry Tomek (2), Tracy Powell

Tenative through RES or JD: Bob Pultz, Frank Manders, Paul Erickson

Outstanding Ralph!! I would assume that this list would also be indicative of the Friday night crowd?? Perhaps those who plan on attending the Friday night ice breaker would drop me an email with their name and address so I can firm up plans also! I can't wait!! till....later....G.T.

Hi G.T...!

First, check your e-mail, I just sent you the list I have...

Second - THANK YOU as well for your hospitality Friday evening!!!! It's people like you, and your family, that make events like these successful by welcoming members of a "cyber community" into their house. So my thanks to both your family and the Shattucks...!!!

So - can we bring anything to help out? Soda, beverages - fast food from a "drive through"? (we'd bring "home cooking" - but I'm not sure it would be the same after a day of airline travel )

Thank you again!

and I'm not sure I'd want to eat it after airport security had poked all through it!

The way I cook? It probably wouldn't matter too much

I must have missed something somewhere, what the heck if the Tomeks that is shown on the pre-registration form? Also is there an adjenda put together yet for this event or do we just wander around town until it's time to visit Ralph? I ask because I have relatives in Phoenix and Mesa and would like to possibley visit them for a while but I can't really tell what is going on and when. Thanks

>I must have missed something somewhere...

You can find where the Agenda has been posted several times recently. Please take a moment to go here:

or here:

>.. what the heck if the Tomeks

Please continue to read this thread where I posted back to G.T. "...check your e-mail, I just sent you the list I have..." Those entries would have come from the Registration forms.

>...Also is there an adjenda put together yet

Please see above.

>..or do we just wander around town until it's time to visit Ralph?

Well, folks are certainly free to do what they like, so if you are into wandering - that's fine, too..... , but in the post of mine that you are replying to, I believe I also mentioned: "...Ted and I are trying to come up with some local activities" now that there are enough folks to warrant two seperate groups. By the way, neither Ted or I live locally - Ted is in NM and I am in New England, hence the difficulty in us knowing the "local" attractions on a first hand basis...

>..but I can't really tell what is going on and when...

Well, since you may be more familiar with the local area then either Ted or I, as you have relatives there - perhaps you would like to suggest an activity or two?? Since wandering isn't my personal favorite pastime, I'd like to avoid it, if at all possible... Are your relatives up for a few guests??

Re: Update and Headcount â?? LugerFest 2002

Thanks John, I sure missed those threads. As for the relatives, two cousins, I haven't even talked to either of them since about 95 or so, and as of right now I don't even know where one of them lives, used to be in Mesa and that is quite a ways to to the east. Also can't recommend anything exciting other than the Aviation Museum (Warbirds) in Mesa, have heard it is pretty nice but haven't seen it yet. I have only been back to Phoenix once since the Army drafted me from there in 65 and a lot of things have changed since then. Wish I could be of more help but right now you know more about it than I do. Am still trying to decide if I am going to attend , I hate those 500 mile drives anymore and Arizona drivers are worse than those here in Utah. I'll try to find the URL for the warbirds in case anyone is interested. Ya could always go prospecting for the lost dutchman's mine in the Superstitions' LOL

Re: Update and Headcount â?? LugerFest 2002

Hi Herb..! No problem at all.. I think there are so many messages posted to the Board - that messages move way down the page and off the Board after only four days or so... Anyway, as the events for now two groups get pulled together, we'll post a "final" agenda for everone. On that note - personally, I love the idea of the Avaition/Warbirds Museum!! We'll have to take a look at a map to see the proximity, but if it's a longer trek, perhaps it would be terrific for the folks that are staying through Sunday? Great suggestion - thanks!!! So, if you have a URL handy, please do post it back, OK?

We hope to see you there Herb, and have the opportunity to meet in person. I would look forward to it..! Also, G.T.'s and Ralph/Nancy's I think would be "well worth the trip" (sort of like the Dunkin Donuts ad )...

Thanks again Herb..!

Fighter Museum!!

I have thought of the Champlin fighter museum in Mesa, but I am not sure if they have all their display, as rumor has it, they have been sold, Hugh and I went there last year, and it wasn't to bad!.....the confederate airforce also has a branch in Mesa, but it is a hit & miss deal also, as they are away to airshows, with there best stuff, most of the spring and summer! I will check it out, Trips to these events could be arranged for Sunday perhaps? till...later....G.T.

Here are the URL's http://www.ci.mesa.az.us/airport/museum.htm and

http://www.ci.mesa.az.us/airport/museum2.htm. One of them has a map to the area, actually Falcon Field, the local Mesa airport.

Always the Indian Casinos for those that would like to try there luck at getting enough money to buy one of Ralphs Lugers. However, I bet that we are all going to be so wore out after all the talking and looking that we won't have to worry about side trips.

Re: The Luger Rush

Bob Tracy, you are right about the trip to Ralph's wearing you out! 2-3 hours of adrenaline pumping then it stops, it is tiring fun beyound belief! I am addicted to seeing all those terrific Lugers and visiting Ralph and Nancy is a thrill as well! ~Thor~

Anything for the ladies?

If there are to be two groups visiting the Shattucks, is there anything for the "offside undo" crowd to do while they are not at the Shattucks; or for the ladies to do, if they would rather go antiquing or go look at a mountain or a cactus?

Thor 01-13-2002 03:49 AM

Re: Anything for the ladies?

Well Ad, we are talking and scratching our heads about the other activities. With respect to the ladies, Nancy Shattuck left with the ladies last trip, you would have to ask John Dunkle to find out from his wife what they did. I do know that Nancy and Ralph have asked for all the wives to come! I know Ralph told me I couldnt get in without my Mrs. Thor! ~Thor~

Check your e-mail. I'm a member of the Arizona Wing CAF. Live 2 miles down the road from Falcon Field. I believe the Fighter museum is moving out in 2003 or'04. Let me know if you need a contact.
