DWM Commercial?
10 Attachment(s)
I have recently obtained this DWM 30 cal. and I am not sure exactly what it is. I am posting pictures here in the hopes that other members can provide insight and possibly value for insurance purposes. Thank you for any help in identifying this Luger. Mike

Looks to be a DWM 'Alphabet' commercial, serial 2829M, that was made about late 1923 to early 1924. The mid toggle link is mismatched and marked 32. The retaining pin in the left toggle head is missing.
The mag for an alphabet usually has a wood bottom. FN |
With its poor finish, mis-matched toggle and missing toggle pin, in this deflated environment, ths is, at best, a "shooter" valued at $600-$800, in my view.

Might just be distortion of the picture, but the takedown lever looks bent outward...

Because of condition, I think $600 is pushing it and being in 30 luger (7.65mm) I think you'd be lucky to get that and problably closer to $500 if selling at a show...
I would comment that although you'd expect a wood magazine, a stamped 'germany' aluminum is also seen and could have been original, as aluminum was used as early as 1925 (i.e. simson mags) Ed |
The mag alone is worth around $200+. You don't see GERMANY marked aluminum bottom commercial mags that often.
|
IMHO mags marked "Germany" whether wood or metal bottomed, were imported into the US separately as spares. Had they been imported in a pistol, there would have been no requirement to mark them, as the pistol would be marked. TH
