Sighting in my Artillery
 

Could it be the flip of my wrist at recoil causing my otherwise accurate Artillery to group to the left? Or, could it have anything to do with the way I'm sighting the gun? This was my first attempt at sighting in the gun. In any case, I am happy with its accuracy at 15 yards. Next time I will move the target down-range to see if it shoots any better for me. I sure love the Artillery!

Next time zoom in on the target so we don't see the hit in the 5 ring on the lower left. HEHEHE!

Hi Dan,


Could be the sights, or the shooter pressing on the left of the trigger - either will cause shift of the group to 9 oâ??clock. Try shooting with just the pad of your trigger finger on the trigger - and that pressing straight back.

Thanks Kyrie. What a great idea! I think will give that a try. There is no reason that gun should not put bullets in the center of the target. I have been told that the bore can be off a degree or two but doubt that is the case. You are right, I have to be pulling that trigger slightly to the left.

If consitently off, just drift the front sight to the left, simple solution! You never know now who had already adjusted it since the factory, I would also look at the witness mark on the sight to see if it was moved off the factory setting! ~Thor~

Another GREAT idea! Just drifting the sight to the left should give me the inch or two that I need downrange.


I pulled the gun out and looked at the front sight. There are no markings at or around the front sight. It appears to be dead even on both sides. I have four strange looking marks on the right side of the receiver. I have no clue as to what they mean. It appears to be perfectly alligned between left and right.


As usual, you have a great idea. I REALLY appreciate your help!


I will try your idea out on Friday.

When Luger Pistols were zeroed at the factory, a small mark (a line) parallel to the bore was placed (stamped) across the top of the front sight base and across the top of the barrel thickened edge to indicate the zero locations of both parts when the gun was zeroed. See the attached picture and look at the top of the left side (as facing from the back of the gun looking toward the muzzle) and you will see a deep witness mark! Barrels and receivers also shared a similar mark underneath the reciever when they were matched up! The line up looked better on the original picture! ~Thor~

Ah, yes. I do see it now. How interesting? Mine lines up perfectly. Thank you for pointing that out. I learned something new today. I also see the witness mark at the bottom of the barrel as well.


I now see how that front sight is adjusted as well. Does it take a special tool or tap to adjust it?
