..have you tried removing the magazine and then pull pack the toggle?

You might try removing the magazine and pulling the toggle back and looking to see if the holdopen is still sticking up. Could be that its stuck because of a bur or dried grease in the little slot.

I have removed mag and pulled back. is it possible to disassemble with toggle back? Sorry, I found the gun in this condition among my deceased fathers things, and am not that familiar with the luger, but have been looking at disassembly and it seems like the toggle needs to be forward for disassembly.
THANKS!

I'd try pushing down on the part shown in the first pic...while holding back on the toggle...(it will bite you)...

Second pic shows the holdopen in released position...

...You didn't say *how* you got it...or what the problem was... :(

Come on now...Did you beat it on your workbench??? Did you smack it good with a hammer (always my first choice)???

Was it jammed??? Did the holdopen spring break??? Dirt or yuck under/in the holdopen slot???

Somebody else will have this problem...please share your fix...

Sorry about that-wish I would have took photos. Basically once I was able to break it down I found that the holdopen spring was bent such that the holdopen would not disengage unless manually held down. I bent it back in shape and now it works as it should, Thanks again to everyone. Im loooking forward to seeing how it shoots. By the way it looks like all the parts are numbered the same (even mags) except that there are two numbers that dont seem to match on the bolt that are Xed out. I assume that means these parts are from different guns? Does the gun maintain any collector value if not matching? Its a pretty tight piece.

You are probably looking at a number of "forced match" parts. Look closely at numbers such as the sideplates and see if metal was ground off in order to add a new number. THe "X"d out serials usually indicate a Russian Capture and posibly East German issue pistol. The matching magazines would indicate this as well.
If it were truly an all matching, including magazines gun I would not shoot it.

humboldtdan 05-17-2009 04:33 PM

it looks like the only xed out numbers are the ones I spoke of they are 52 compared to rest of gun which are 63 (9663). Magazines match the 9663. No evidence of metal removal. Also have nice holster with takedown tool. I have 3 mags. What does forced match mean?
