Boiled Linseed Oil--Grips
Silly question...I have raw oil...do I just simply boil it and apply to the grips hot? I following the FAQ grip clean up and just finished with the Murphy's Oil Soap.
Thanks, Mikey |
Re: Boiled Linseed Oil--Grips
Nope, you buy it it labeled on the bottle/can. Boiled Linseed oil is available at most hardware or paint stores. DONT use regular Linseed oil!! Thor

Thanks! Anybody need a new bottle of raw linseed oil?

Re: Boiled Linseed Oil--Grips
Boiled Linseed Oil really isn't! :("> It is a processed oil that is completely different from "raw" Linseed oil. WATCO DANISH OIL FINISH,"Natural color", which has no stain in it, is much better than BLO.

Re: Boiled Linseed Oil--Grips
I have used the Watco Danish Oil to which Hugh refers a lot for walnut jewelry boxes, and it provides a beautiful, hand-rubbed finish.

Re: Boiled Linseed Oil--Grips
Welllll....I'm all done with using the FAQ method and it looks great! It still looks nice and old, just cleaned up. It doesn't look like brand new grips on an old gun...which is exactly what I wanted. I'm very pleased!
Thanks All!!! Mikey |

Glad to hear that Mikey! Thor

Hey Mikey... Can you show us photos or scans of the cleaned grips? (EOM)

Re: Hey Mikey... Can you show us photos or scans of the cleaned grips?
I'd love to but the film has yet to be developed...then, hook up the scanner and I'd be in business. I promised Dieter a few pics as well. Tell you what, I will try to finish the roll this week and get it in for development...I did photograph the Luger before and after......Stay tuned!!!

Just a thought, but..did you know you can actually 'scan' your Luger and save the output as a jpg file and upload it directly to the forum? (Hard to believe, but they come out pretty good).

Thanks-- I'll be watching for them
