East German VoPo 08

Hi,

I want to buy a Pistole 08 of the former East German Volkspolizei. It is a DWM from 1913 (serial 630) with nearly matching numbers and a new barrel from East German Suhler manufaction. There are two magazines with matching numbers and a pouch for the pistol. One of the magazines has the Haenel "fxo" mark and two WaA marks.

Can someone give me more informations about this weapon?

Prices? Rarity because of DWM 1913 (most of the weapon ;-)

?

By the way, it shoots very accurate!

Greetings

JF

Re: East German VoPo 08

Hi JF,

East German reworks are largely viewed as shooters, and have a value roughly between $250 and $500. True VoPo Lugers (Lugers issued to the VoPo, as indicated by VoPo markings) can have some collector value to the folks who collect VoPo Lugers. The value of a Vopo depends on condition and whether it is matching. As you indicate yours is â??nearly matchingâ?, I would assume it is a mismatched pistol and as such would have only shooter value.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Kyrie

Almost Matching?

To say 'almost matching' is like saying 'almost virgin' !

Worth about $450 if it has a good bore and good function. The extra fxo magazine adds around $80 value depending on condition. The "pouch" may have some value but more information is needed. If it is a pre-1945 luger holster, then it would have some value.

Orv - obviously....

You have to spend more time on the Auction sites..

"ALL MATCHING Luger - all numbers on this collectiable Luger match (except for the sideplate - which is a repro)..."; or

"All Numbers match! Toggle is wrong type and without number - but the numbers that ARE THERE do match!. This is a highly prized collectors Luger!"; or my personal favorite:

"I don't know much about these guns. Gun has numbers all over it and a EAGLE is stamped on it. Gun is excellent. Gun numbers are not the same - except the last two digits sometimes are the same. Gun is my grand-grandfathers second cousins vet bring back. Gun was just found in a drawer. Good gun - asking $10,000... AS IS"....

Probably that famous General DWM again..quite a General he was too. While hanging by piano wire at the end of the war, the Luger, all sort of matching, fell out of the (matching) holster and my Grandfather (E-1) scurried over to retrieve it!

Another angle

The East German re-worked army and VOPO lugers used to sell for more (10-20%) than a strait up WWI or WWII Luger up until they started being imported in the mid-80's. The "collectability" of these is purely in the eye of the beholder. They are a great collectable for those people interested in cold war east bloc items. Back in the 50's and 60's most all German military Lugers were considered "shooters" by the "elite" in the collecting hobby, so keep in mind that time changes perspective. As for mostly matched, I feel that this is indeed a valid discriminater, provide the mis-matched part-parts are specified. For example I consider a luger with a mis-matched mag as still "being worthy" of my collection if it meets other criteria. Even for shooting, I would rather have a Luger with a few small parts mismatched that one made up from a pile of pieces. Other wise I agree with the value range offered by the others.
