Skull on luger holster

I have a wwII german luger and holster I inherited from my father who was in the Battle of the Bulge. On cleaning the holster I noticed as skull stamped in the outside crown of the holster. Any info on this?

I have no info on the skull John, but

Please check the General Information page for the how-to of preserving historical leather items. Using the wrong stuff can wipe out any collector value...

What kind of Luger did you inherit? Please tell us what stamps and markings are on it...

I believe one of Still"s books shows one of these. He states they were used by early camp guards.

Re: Skull on luger holster

Hi,

Most think these are concentration camp guard holsters. Most have been faked, and again, as Johnny P. stated in a previous post, there are more fakes than real ones.

Speaking of holters...

Just got my order today from Pecards. Ordered the Antique Leather Dressing based on the General Information information, and also in emailing the VP at the factory. Just sitting here looking at the holster (1914 stamped) and my hand is shaking with the leather dressing on my finger. I'm a little nervous about changing the look of this thing and decreasing it's value. If nothing else, my finger is going to be water proof, thats for sure. Wish me luck...

Re: Skull - more Info

Here are two possibilities for this gun. Should have listened better when younger LOL.

First- Gun was obtained during liberation of Budesheim camp as I have original drawing from an American POW that was done in coffee, blood and other pigments available. This was a present to my father.

Second - Gun was obtained from a Luftwaffe pilot. I do have yellow handled Luftwaffe Dagger with Lanyard and also a German pilot's identification papers with picture and bomb stamps. Would the gun have anything on it indicating either source?
