Luger Dummy Needs Help
I have an opportunity to trade for a Erfurt 1916 Luger and I know absolutely nothing about Lugers. Can anyone give me a hand in identifying this gun and maybe give me some ideas about it's history and what the value might be. I have added pictures which I hope will help. You can e-mail me direct with your ideas and information or just post them here if you like. Thank you. Kirby

Kirby, there may be a lot of good here, we'll take it bit by bit and see, the frame is Bulgarian marked and in its self may be worth several hundred, however the gun looks typical East German mis-matched and dip blued, it would be very interesting to see how the extractor is marked, if it is also Bulgarian it again would be of considerable value. Then there are the grip, of which we would need a detailed picture of the back side, but if original "black widow" then again worth big bucks....I do not know what the trade deal is, perhaps you can let us know, but I think you may have some neat stuff here.......hope this helps and hope others jump in here

Kirby, welcome to the forum. Generally we prefer photos to be displayed here on this forum, so members do not have to leave and visit other sites to view pictures.
Also, since folks have to be members, adding xxx's or other tricks to the email is just more work for the member trying to answer you, as most folks on the forum may not understand how to edit a hyperlink.... Ed |
Thank you for the information. Hopefully I can provide a little more information. According to the owner the grips are black plastic. I will attach some more pictures with this post in hope that they might shed some more light of this situation. Thanks again for your help. Kirby

Sorry to say that the grips are early reproductions of the bakelite type grip. They are poor quality plastic, and considered ugly by many (including me) but if they are grips comfortable in your hand, and are not loose, they will do for a shooter and should give good service.

I have the same pair on a replica here i'm fixing up for my nephew, agreed they are horrid things. They got wipped off asap and replaced with some original style checkered walnut

Is the gun worth anywhere near $750.00? Should I go ahead with the trade? Help!!!!!!! Kirby
