1900 sideplate
Is a sideplate on a 1900 interchangeable with other models? Or more sepcifically, I have a 1900 sn 6303 with a sideplate that is commercially marked #22 that fits and works in a 1900 AE, no germany mark, etc.
I know what it states in the New Central Powers, that although in the commonlly held numbers of test luger 6100-7100, that it is not one of the numbers listed in the Bannerman sale. My primary question is; 1. Would other sideplates work or is this most likely at least a 1900 sideplate? |
It is a 1900 sideplate. The 1900 has a different trigger and sideplate transfer lever than later models. The lower extension and slot in the trigger is shorter, and the lower arm of the lever is shorter on a 1900. Therefore, unless something is very worn you can't assemble a later sideplate onto a 1900.

Ron,
If I read your response correctly, you are stating that the trigger lever is different, not the actual sideplate. The side plate on a P08 seems to be identical to an M1900 side plate. Would a P08 sideplate with an M1900 trigger lever work? KFS |
Karl,
You are correct. There are minor internal machining differences between the 1900/02 and the 1906/08 sideplates, but the earlier lever could be installed in the later plate and it would work. http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/triggers.jpg http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/sp1.jpg http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/sp2.jpg |
Ron,
An excellent presentation, thanks very much. --Dwight |
