Please help with 1936 holster
 

I bought a 1936 Luger holster as a birthday gift for my boyfriend. I would like it if you guys can look at some pics and help me determine its authenticity. To me, it looks and feels authentic. It's in good condition but it has some obvious wear and some leather stretching. It also smells OLD. On the back, there is a faded manufacturer's stamp that says A Wunderlich Nache Berlin 1936.
I want to know:
1. Is it authentic?
2. Is it possible to tell what it was used for? Military/commercial
3. Can it be linked with a particular type of luger?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this holster is a very bad copy. The belt loops are incorrectly placed and stitched, the stitching overall is not that good. I would definitely try to get a refund on this.

Barb, Steve is right. A very poorly done reproduction currently available for $29.95.
It is admirable for you to attempt this very difficult purchase for your boyfriend. Sort of like sending a sheep to the butchershop for a few cutlets.
Hang around on the Forum if you have time and send photo's of any future purchase considerations and the fellows here will help you out!

You have been given the correct information about the military use of this style of holster and the appropriate model of Luger it would carry. The advice is also correct about it being a reproduction. Together with the answers you received on the Gunboards forum, the combined experience of the individuals that replied is well over 100 years, and probably closer to 200 years, of collecting.

It is unfortunate that you purchased a reproduction as an original. But since you bought it from an antique dealer, chances are good that they were also unaware that it is a repro. You would not expect to have an antique Victorian writing desk purchased from a sporting goods store to be absolutely authentic. If the dealers are as reputable as you think, they will refund your money. Since undoubtedly they sold the holster to you at a profit, they do not stand to lose as much through their error and learn from the experience themselves.

Check out some of the photos of original ones in the holster section of this forum, you will see the differences in genuine hosters that the guys have brought up, as well as tips of what to look for in the real ones.

Thanks. Going to return it right now. I'm printing out the forum pages. I honestly think the ppl at the store didn't know. But you know. They have to take it back or I will form a scene so yeah.

They took it back. They didn't know so I guess now they're forced to investigate.
