Brass barrel cup in holster???
 

My dad picked up a holster that clearly looks to be a Luger. I will get some pictures later but for now here is what I noticed. Down inside where the barrel sets is a brass cup. The gun pull up strap was sewn to the inside of flap so as you opened it up it pulled the gun up. No magazine pouch nor are there stich holes for one. No markings that I noticed. Anyone see one of these before??? Thanks,Rick B

Brass cup ??? Maybe a fellow added it so gun oil would not run down the barrel and stain/soil the bottom of the holster's toe leather...as this guy knew in 60 years he could sell it for $ 610...???

Here are a few pictures of the holster. My father brought it by and it was so hot the lens fogged up. Dummy me should have waited and taken some more after it adjusted to the temp. It was in a air condition room before I took it down stairs. Any clue as to origin?? Rick B

I thnk it might be a flare pistol holster.

Herr Wood is barking up the right tree...The holster nose is way too wide for the slim barreled Luger Pistol. The front looks to be cut away. The lift strap is to lift the pistol up enough to get hold of it..Looks like someone made it unnecessary.
Hard to tell really what this might have been for exactly...Usually German Flare gun holsters had a cleaning rod apparatus on the outside with a cup for the rod. Jerry Burney

Rick, The holster shown is the Norwegian issue holster for their M1914 copy of the Colt 1911. These were still in use in WW2, but are usually unmarked. TH
