Need help with New Luger (to me)
 

Just got a DWM 30 cal Luger. 95 % blue with no dates. Serial number (SN) is 850x a. Underside of barrel has crown over N (c/N) with SN under it. "Germany" on left side of frame above take down latch. Left side of slide has c/N with lazy c/N on left side of toggle. Strawing is good. Pistol is all matching. GESICHERT (all capitals) under safety
Anyone know the date it was made and approx value. I would like to know if I paid too much or got a good deal.

Well, it would be a lot easier to determine value with some pictures, but let's take it for what info we do have.

It sounds to me like a standard 1920 Commercial. If it's in really, really good shape with matching grips and mag, it's probably worth about $1,200 or so. And that's a reall "out there, ballpark guess"... :)

Need pictures if possible, also the full serial number and confirmation of the letter suffix. An a suffix Luger with a lazy c/N is out of the ordinary.

That was my first impression also, but I believe the wording indicates that the lazy c/N is on the forward toggle link with no mention of the orientation of the receiver c/N.

Correct, the vertical c/N is on the front part of receiver while the lazy c/N is on the forward toggle link.
With a nervous excited glance the suffix appeared to be an "a." However, with closer exam and using suffix charts from this forum I must admit it is an "o."
I think my pistol is an alphabet commercial. Still wondering about date made and approx value. I am working on getting pictures for this forum.

Once you can post up some photos, the Members will be able to help you more with a real sense of value.

Value depends on factors such as rariety of the model, original factory blue and straw finish and percentage of those finishes remaining, all small parts number matching or not, grips matched or not, magazine matched or not or correct for the gun, etc.

The 1920's commercial lugers have been the least desirable Lugers in the USA, typically, amongst collectors so one cannot expect to see big-bucks assigned to them...

Whoops. I forgot in my last message to include the pistol's serial number. It is 8506a.
I am going to try and send pictures this time. Hope they work and will help with the information you need.

Well, I see that did not work. Will try again.

The correct serial number is actually 8506 o. Hopefully I got this right. But I am still having trouble with the pictures.

Maybe two are to large. I will send one and see if that works.

This Luger was manufactured in late 1925 or early 1926.
