Erfurt 1916
 

Hello,
I have just aquired an Erfurt Luger. Of course almost anyone can pickout a Luger from a line-up of hand guns. But I am new and intrigued by these handguns and the many varieties. I would appreciate any info I could get on mine. It is dated 1916 with the crown on top. I cant make out all of the 4 proofmarks but there is a bird at the end.The serial number ends with 88 and all the numbers match. Unfortunately it has been rebarreled with a 16 in. carbine type barrel. What a heartbreaker. I am not looking to restore this piece for purposes of selling or as some sort of priceless heirloom. I would however like to restore it with the proper barrel and to keep it as a fine shooter. Any suggestions and/or info?

A 1916 would have a 4 inch barrel, that said, I personally like a 5 or 6 inch barrel as they shoot very nice like that.

Since the pistol is a "parts gun" I would suggest that the easiest and perhaps cheapest path for you will be to find another barrel with receiver(barrel extension) attached. They can be had for a rather modest price.

Following this course you would be able to quickly switch between a four inch shooter or a sixteen inch shooter to which you could attach a repro stock.

GS, I have new 4,6 or 8 inch 9mm luger barrels in stock and the proper tools & experience in changing them. But as was stated above, this can be more expensive than purchasing a spare used barrelled receiver ($200 to $250) for your pistol. Even then, it may have to be fitted to your frame and should be head spaced by a knowledgeable gunsmith and a proper 9mm recoil spring installed. TH
