![]() Found this on a Luger barrel! What do you make of it? ~Thor~

Re: Barrel Proof
That is an unusual eagle. I haven't seen it before (and I just went through Costanzo's chapter 'Evolution of the Eagle' and it is not listed. He lists over 223 different eagle proofs and there are several that are very close (Simpson/Erfurt military reworks).

Re: Barrel Proof
I don't know squat about the eagle. But I really wonder how the heck you got such a great picture of it.

Re: Barrel Proof
Looks similar to the eagle that you find on some Sneaks. What model luger is this?

Re: Barrel Proof
I agree, it looks similar to the eagle on the barrel of my sneek police. It appears below the tp mark on the right side of the barrel.

Re: Barrel Proof
I think you hit it on the head, I found similar ones on 1929 DWMS in Still! It was found on a Double Date DWM and all we can think is the barrel was replaced and stamped with this eagle circa 1930? ~Thor~

Re: Barrel Proof
Ted,
The barrel has the RC/Crown on it also, so would this still be the original barrel and just has a Weimar rework stamp? Marvin |
Re: Barrel Proof
On my 29 sneek, it has a simalar eagle as noted before, the police tp mark and what is really unusual is a stick eagle 135 on the top which would indicate the gun was back at Mauser around late 41/42??

Re: Barrel Proof
Hey, I've got one of those too, but don't remember which gun it is on! Will check when I get home Wednesday.
|
Re: Barrel Proof
It is a Simpson rework eagle. Found on some sneaks and reworks during the Weimar era.

Re: Barrel Proof
I have a 1939 S/42 which has this eagle on the right side ofthe barrel and thr right side of the reciever next to two eagles over 63-one has a bigger 63.
|
Re: Barrel Proof
Me too - on my 1937 S/42. Looks like the same eagle (though not as large as Thor's eagle) to the right of two eagles over 63s and again on the right side of the barrel.

Ted! That's my pistol, isn't it? or is it? (EOM)
|
OK, I figured out it's not. Nevermind.

Re: Ted! That's my pistol, isn't it? or is it?
Of course from the Double Date picture you figured it out that it wasnt your Pistol. The one on your pistol is larger than Marvins and it appears to be cut in after it was blued and not as uniform looking as Marvins double date. Anyway me attention to the Luger you refer to is coming up and as remember you decided to have this marking removed! Have you changed your mind and want to keep it? Just curious! Thor

Re: Ted! That's my pistol, isn't it? or is it?
No, my original decision stands. That's the thing, I couldn't tell from the picture how big it was (the proof) but it darn sure looked familiar.

Re: Rick's Barrel Eagle
Wot a nice little birdie..since it is part of the history..well, it's not my pistol, but I wouldn't mind a bird like that sitting on my barrel (good luck, eagle).
