Construct A Navy -- Charlie Steen's at it again
Just got my SGN -- looks like SARCO is offering a $ 310.00 "kit" to allow you to construct that Navy you've always wanted. Kit consists of rear toggle with 2-position sight and new 6" barrel (available separately).
Don't know how a good a reproduction the rear toggle/sight is. Has anyone seen one? If they are decent copies -- I bet there's going to be a bunch of 1920 Commercial Navy's showing up. |
I wonder if the "Navy" toggle would work on my Mauser Parabellum from the 70's? NO that I want to fool anybody but it would be interesting to have. These parts are only wrong if used for deception. That is not my intention.

Steve,I do not believe that the front sight would be high enough to shoot correct. PBG, there are a few repo front sight floating around, I see them from time to time on eBay....about $350 range....

Steve, I agree with Howard. You would have to install a custom front sight because the "Real" Navy Luger front sight base on the barrel is taller than the standard sight base... Let me see if I have that measurement in my records... If I do, I will post it here.

Shown here are the measurements for the taller Navy type front sight base on a six inch barrel. All measurements are in inches, not millimeters. Measurements were taken from an actual Navy Luger barrel and examination of a Navy Luger blueprint that is not available to the general public that was generously lent to me some time ago by a forum member.
The height of the front sight base should be .170 inches from the barrel band, or 0.470 from the center of the bore. The front sight itself should be standard as far as I know. To use a standard front sight base barrel with a reproduction Navy rear toggle, you would have to increase the front sight blade height by at least .0170 inches. For those that want a copy of the 1913 P.08 Standard configuration blueprints... please see my posting at the top of the For Sale forum for the Blueprints CD... This is excellent study information and will enlighten you on the construction and engineering of the Luger pistol. I hope this is helpful to you Steve. If anyone sees any flaws in the information provided, please let me know so I can correct my records. Conversely, if you can verify my numbers, please do so. http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload...tsightbase.jpg |
Steve, I do have a couple of these Sarco type Navy Rear sight/toggle links in stock @$225 each postpaid, that should work well on your Parabellum. As John mentioned above, you may have to add a taller front sight blade to be on target. Tom Heller POB 398 St.Charles, MO. 63302.
