Pricing and The Gun Blue Book
Is it just me or is the Gun Blue Book not really accurate. I know it can't be exact on every gun but it doesn't seem like a good reference guide.
I am talking specifically about shooter p08's. I also check gunbroker and auction arms and the prices don't match at all with the Blue Book. What is the best way to determine value, other than what someone is willing to pay? |
you have a good start by checking the internet sites that frequent sales take place on, and you should add well known dealers web sites and frequenting major gun shows to your list. Any published book is out of date by the date it gets publicly distributed... Of course if it is a Luger, you can always post the photos here and get a quick idea what the collectors in the know think it is worth.

John,
Thanks!! What well known dealer sites would you recommend? Simpson? Thanks, Doug |
Lugerdoc, Simpson, Shattuck, CheckpointCharlies, just to name a few dealers who specialize... know what you want... then price it and look for one in that order...
My advice is to place your wants in the "wanted" forum and see what kind of response you get. Members are always upgrading their collections and might have a lesser quality Luger that they might want to sell once they get a nicer one... many a deal happens on this forum that benefits all concerned. But Caveat Emptor... know what you want... get plenty of photos, and be sure of the return policy before you buy... Anyone reputable in selling with nothing to hide should have no problem providing good quality photos and allowing you to post them here on the forum to get knowledgeable opinions on value... and if it turns out it is too rich for your pocketbook, then someone else here gets a chance after you turn it down. Good Luck. |
