Hello to all.....

I'm new here. I just ran across your forum the other day and just wanted to say Hi. I own 2 Luger's, which I got from my Dad when he passed away a few years back.

I'll have some questions, as soon as I use the tech info on this site to figure out what I have.

Cheers,

Ray

Ray,

Apparently you have never made the drive from Wichita Falls to Amarillo. God's country that ain't, or if it is he forgot to finish it. Miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles. Just kidding as there are some really nice places in Texas and I have a lot of friends there.

Gruss Gott,Ray!

Welcome to this magnificent forum! I'm sorry about the loss of your father, but I'm glad he held onto the Lugers you now have. He's definitely given you some treasures beyond the fond memories you undoubtably have.I know there are many knowledgable people on this site (I'm not one of them, unfortunately!) who will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.Again, welcome!!

Tschuss! Mark M.

been there

Hey, my grandfather came from Terrell, Texas. I have a brother who lives there. A cousin in Odessa. An uncle in Sweetwater. In-laws in Beaumont and Corpus Christi. Nephew & Niece in Dallas.

Welcome to the forum but the "God's Country" is stretching it a bit.

Re: been there

OK, maybe God's country is a bit of a leap, esp. when it has just hit 100F at 1326local. I tavel alot and it always does my heart good to see the Red River sliding underneath the wing of the jet I'm riding on, inbound on the arrival into DFW.

I live in the DFW gigaplex, but grew up in a small red-neck farming town in Louisiana. So I got a double Texas/red-neck accent that people recognize all over the world.

S. Allen, have you visited Collectorsarms in Houston

They had quite a few Lugers there when I visited back in May...

S. Allen 07-24-2001 04:42 PM

yes..and...

I am not all that fond of this store.

Actually, its quite frustrating. Overly high prices and not much wiggle room for bargaining. i understand the concept of making a profit, but 200-300% mark-up is something I cannot stomach in my casual, little hobby...sorry.

I have not checked their prices on Lugers, but their prices on some Mausers and Enfield rifles are absolutely crazy. 250 dollars for a mismatched Enfield with a questionable bore and import marks? I don't think so! These guys don't get out to gun shows too much, do they?

Still, its fun to go and look and drool over all the stuff they have under one roof.

(I just leave the checkbook at home).

Red neck farming town

Hey Ray, me to! Grew up in Mer Rouge, southeast of Monroe!

Re: Red neck farming town

Hugh,

It must have been dark when you moved from Mer Rouge as it is northeast of Monroe. I had distant relatives there at one time.

Re: yes..and...

My impression was the same... The only thing I purchased there was an original plastic box for a Walther PPK/s out of the $5.00 bargain box...

Some nice Lugers, but I didn't find much else to interest me there...

Re: Red neck farming town

I thought my memory was fading also. Winnsboro is SE of Monroe, which is where I grew up.

I can't say I have ever been to Mer Rouge. I had some kin in Oak Ridge, the Brown family. One of them is a state rep. now (or was, I don't keep up with La. politics anymore), Francis Brown.

Re: Red neck farming town

During the recent floods in Houston it may have been just a little north of you.
